Mid-century ceramic vase (circa 1970s) by Marcel Giraud, Vallauris, France. A rustic, charming piece with a mostly red frieze in abstract surrounded by stylised sun flowers incised into the enamel. On the opposite side the viewer finds curvy lines in blue which are also incised into the shape. The lip and shoulder are formed with unique coffee bean and horseshoe motifs. Sure to be a conversation piece in your home or work place. In good overall condition. Upon request a video may be provided. Please enjoy the photos accompanying the listing. Although Giraud's pieces normally are stamped with a maker's mark, this particular one has his signature on the underside indicating its origins as a unique work rather than a more utilitarian ceramic. The reference to 'BRUZ' above the mark is unknown.

About the Artist: Marcel Giraud (born 1937), from Vallauris, France left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter at the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He later worked at several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960 creating mostly utilitarian ware. Since 1975 Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.
