Mid-Century Ceramic Vase / Pitcher by Jeanne & Norbert Pierlot (circa 1960s)

Mid-Century French ceramic vase / pitcher by Jeanne & Norbert Pierlot (circa 1960s). With an off-white base and sandstone accents, this elongated and elegant vase with handle and spout is a delight. The glazed parts that are predominantly white are lustrous and satiny; the sandstone coloured segments however are more tactile and textured. Visually and tactilely stunning. In good vintage condition with characterful blemishes commensurate with age. Maker's mark on base is the trademark small owl. Upon request a video of the piece will be provided. 

About the Artists: Jeanne (1917 - 1988) and Norbert (1919 - 1979) Pierlot, started their pottery in the 1950s in Ratilly, in the centre part of France. Although utilitarian pieces were the focus from the start, their experience and creativity ultimately drove their works towards more abstraction, particularly those of Norbert, in the latter period of his life. Pot-shaped works were off-centre, distorted, without ornamentation and thus registering as full-fledged sculptures. Their maker's mark is a small owl, usually, but not always on the base. The Pierlot legacy was carried on by their daughter, Nathalie.
