Ask a Question

A delightfully rustic, antique, hand-crafted earthenware olive oil vessel (circa 1900) sourced from Avignon, France, in Provence from a seller who indicated it was from the Auvergne region. The Auvergne is the least populated area in France and indeed, in all of Europe, with respect to population density per kilometre of land. It is the home of ancient mountains, grazing lands and volcanic lakes. Somewhat uncertain about its original purpose (wine, oil, water?), this earthenware container is sizeable in stature and in charm; the piece would look beautiful on an old garden or kitchen table. Given its age, it is in fair overall condition - those blemishes, nicks, scratches and tiny chips are part of its charm and attest to its interesting history. The detailed photos accompanying this listing do not do the piece any favours as it actually looks better when viewed in person. Upon request a video can be provided.
