Aluminium and brass brutalist style ice bucket by David Marshall (circa 1980s). A stunning piece, its solidity and heft are reassuring and its tactility, sensuous. The maker's mark is impressed on one of the top corners of the brass top. The underside has the trademark leather base (faded) also with maker's mark. There are two solid brass side handles in fixed positions and the lid also incorporates an immovable brass handle. Overall this piece is in good condition with characterful nicks, marks and uneven surfaces consistent with its fabrication, style, age and usage. Inspired by the mountainous surroundings and all the detritus of nature – David developed a thriving design business working with institutional and private clients worldwide. His metal works from the 1980s have become iconic and are now seriously collectible pieces.
