19th Century Spanish Fajalauza 'Lebrillo' - Large
SKU 2069
A large 19th Century Spanish Fajalauza "Lebrillo" from Granada. A lebrillo is a large ceramic bowl with rim. These bowls originated in the 15th Century and are typically green and white in colour with terra cotta rims. They were part of household, all-purpose furnishings in those days typically used for doing laundry, cooking and even bathing the children. There were eight different sizes of Fajalauza depending on their use. They were often passed down through generations and were rarely thrown away. If they broke, they were repaired by a professional called a lañador who used hot tin to solder them. Antique pieces with signs of repairs are often considered especially valuable to collectors. The forged metal display stand is included in the price. This piece is in good overall condition presenting a slight fading to the colour commensurate with age. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. If requested, a video will be provided.
