'Still Life in Bleu', oil on board, by Anna Costa (circa 1960s). In addition to her many landscapes, Costa painted many still lifes, mostly bouquets of flowers as subject. This lovely arrangement consists of a blue vase with a bouquet of flowers rising from its stem like balloons at a child's party. The background consists of various shades of blue which creates a solid basis for the explosive use of colour in the flowers. The overall effect is thrilling!

Still life paintings often bring the outdoors inside and with them, thoughts of nature, of hope and beauty. A beautifully composed still life such as this may inspire one to action and to the realisation of how beautiful life can be. What a charming artwork this is, painted by this wonderful Provencal artist in her inimitable Impressionist style! The colours in Costa's artworks are famous for their richness and vibrancy, and the quality of light in the region plays a big part in this. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. The painting is in good overall condition and has been newly framed with a French-style linen slip. Upon request a video will be provided. Although unsigned, the stamp of the Atelier Anna Costa appears on the backside of her works.

About the Artist: Anna Costa (approx: 1922-2022) painted in her Provençal village in the Cavaillon area from the 1940s until the 1970s. Upon her passing, her estate released her art into the market where dealers around the world are clambering for her works. Costa's art is characterised by its bright colours and strong naive style which make them instantly recognisable. This style is called Provençal Colourism. It is a regional art movement that emerged in the South of France in the early 20th century. It is also characterised by bright and bold colours, as well as strong contrasts between light and shadow. The movement drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the region including its landscapes, people and traditions.
