Vintage French Decorative Fruit Bowl by Albert Thiry (circa 1960s)

Mid-century decorative fruit bowl by Albert Thiry (circa 1960s). A gentle green glaze encircles the lip of the bowl over a chalk-white base. The recess of the bowl is decorated with a stunning woman incised without enamel in earthy clay. On her shoulders is a large bird in green and white with an expressive red eye. Both visually appealing and tactile, the piece would make an excellent addition to your home or workspace. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
