Vintage French Ceramic Cachepot by Albert Thiry (circa 1970s)

This delightful ceramic planter is predominantly in a creamy white glaze with a rustic band of repeating shapes in chocolate brown. The interior is similar yet with more visible striations, or wheel marks, from top to bottom. In good overall condition. Maker's signature on the raw clay underside. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
