Mid-Century Decorative Crockery Pot by Albert Thiry (circa 1960s)
SKU 1347
Mid-century decorative crockery pot (circa 1960s) by Albert Thiry. A classic Thiry design and decoration scheme, the base colour is a chalky-white glaze with incised plant blades and chocolate brown filler in a repeating pattern on the pot. A similar pattern repeats on the cover without the filler. Touches of hazy green add visual interest to the piece. Very rustic in a Provencal style. In overall good condition. Signed: 'Thiry' on underside. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. This gallery finds that Thiry's works are increasingly in demand in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. Upon request a video of this piece may be provided.
About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932 - 2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
