'Village Lines in Colour', abstract oil on board (c. 1980s) by Jean Jaffeux (1931 - 2015). This dramatic townscape of lines, curves and angles is captivating. The muted central colours are juxtaposed against splashes of blue, yellow and orange in harmonious balance. There is an essential symmetry in the composition that  reveals itself to the viewer in its delicate complexity. This piece is representative of the character and style of the artist's paintings as he approached the end of his creative life. Newly framed, in very good condition. Signed by the artist in the lower left-hand corner: 'J Jaffeux'. A short video clip of this work can be provided upon request.

About the Artist: Jean Jaffeux, (1931 - 2015) was 15 when he painted his first canvas. Jean, who was self-taught, was motivated and inspired by the work of his father, Charles, who was a painter, illustrator and engraver. After having worked in the field of commercial drawing and illustration, Jean changed artistic direction, a decision which lasted a lifetime. He started working with enamel on volcanic earth after having received a proposal from the director of the enamel works, Atelier de Saint Martin, in Mozac, France. This was the start of a 50 year career where he became renown for his decorative table tops and inspired works on cathedral and church altars and stations-of-the-cross. At retirement age, Jaffeux picked up where he left off years earlier, painting again both figurative and abstract works in oils. In 2013 he said, "I hope I die with a paint brush in my hand."
