'Three Nude Women', oil on board, in original frame, by Louis Toncini (1907 - 2002). This effervescent depiction of three nude women (c. 1960s) certainly was inspired by Picasso's groundbreaking cubist work, 'Les Demoiselles d'Avignon'. In Picasso's piece, each figure was depicted in a disconcerting confrontational manner and none is conventionally feminine. Toncini, however, has accomplished the work with his trademark vibrant colours and softened the effect by depicting the women in artist's poses. In excellent vintage condition commensurate with age. It is beautifully framed and signed in the lower left: 'Toncini. L'. A short video clip of this work can be provided upon request.

About the Artist: Louis Toncini, born in Marseille, France and was one of a group of artists who founded the 'peintres prolétariens', or later, the painters of the people. He painted the world of workers and depicted such subjects as factories, warehouses, train stations and working ports, etc. After the war his work took a more optimistic turn with paintings of still lifes, bouquets and country landscapes. Toncini's art appears in museums, galleries and private collections around the world and has been auctioned by major international auction houses.
