'Musical Geometry', oil on board, still-life, by A. Maxy (circa 1940s - 1960s). Geometric shapes and lines delineate a classical guitar in yellow and black in this post-war artwork. Inspiration surely came from Georges Braque. From the 'Berlin School', this piece brings together elements of cubism, constructivism and expressionism. Lines both parallel and perpendicular repeat and suggest the strings of the guitar and musical notes. The artist uses subdued colours which has the effect of magnifying the primary image, pushing it towards the viewer. What a wonderful and uplifting piece. Newly framed with linen slip. In excellent vintage condition commensurate with age. Signed: A. Maxy. A short video clip of this work can be provided upon request.
