French Vintage Decorative Pitcher by Vieux Moulin (circa 1960s) - Large
SKU 2382
Decorative ceramic pitcher by Robert Perot, founder of the pottery, Vieux Moulin (circa 1960s), Vallauris, France. Charming earthenware glazed piece with abstract motif in the central decorative band. The motif is reminiscent of a Balinese or African garment pattern with a lovely chocolate brown background and oatmeal hued linear shapes. It suggests movement not dissimilar to a Keith Haring piece. This is an authentic, collectible mid-century modern pottery piece and is entirely unique rather than from a run of many. The underside is impressed with, 'Vieux Moulin Vallauris', but less visible is hand inscribed with 'Pièce Unique', or 'one off'. It is in very good overall condition. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request, a video will be provided.
About the Artist: Robert Perot (1931-2003) was a French sculptor and ceramicist. In 1954 he moved to Vallauris, in the South of France and set up the Vieux Moulin pottery studio which continued until the 1970s. After that period he moved away and focused on sculpture. Vallauris became famous as a pottery town after Picasso moved there to take up ceramic design in 1948. Other leading potters like Roger Capron and Robert Picault moved there as an art pottery community developed around Picasso. Perot exhibited his work alongside Picasso and these other artists during the 1950s.
