Decorative ceramic tray / vide-poche by the Cloutier brothers (circa 1970s). A whimsically depicted tree and bird with flower lift one's spirits and the image painted on to this eclair-shaped ceramic tray. With a chalky white backdrop, the subjects on the tray appear in a brownish purple or, some would say, a subtle pink. This motif with tree (Décor Arbre) resonates often in the Cloutiers' pieces. A lovely object for your home or office and a real conversation piece. In very good vintage condition commensurate with age. Upon request, a brief video may be provided for context. Maker's mark on bottom: 'Cloutier'.
About the Designers: Jean and Robert Cloutier are called the twin brothers of ceramics. After having apprenticed for Lafourcade, Rivière, Georges Jouve and Pol Chambost, the brothers created their own workshop located in Paris in 1955. They produced both functional and dreamlike decorative objects. After Paris and a brief interlude in the town of Yonne, France, the Cloutiers put down roots in the Languedoc region of southern France. Forever refining their ceramic processes, they are considered to have perfectly mastered their profession and are held in the highest esteem.
