Decorative Ceramic Platter by David Sol, Sant Vicens pottery (circa 1950s). Truly a unique piece, there is an Asian motif in the design accented by rich, textured colouring. Sublime. In this large platter there is a pagoda-like structure, a partridge and another fantastical bird, a fish, suns and moons along with a human figure in traditional wear, symbols and plant life. A beautifully balanced melange of images in deep, rich blues, oranges, greens and yellows. The piece is in excellent vintage condition. Signed on the base: 'David Sol - Sant Vicens'.

About the Artist: David Sol was born in 1937 from an old family from Aigues Mortes, France, in the Camargue. After his studies at the Ecole of Beaux Arts in Montpellier, he chose to work with ceramics at the renown Sant Vicens atelier in Perpignan between 1956 and 1960. His work was immediately recognised for its quality and originality. After selecting the elements in his work chosen from his magical and familiar world - mythical characters who nourished our childhoods, birds and fantastical animals, fictitious plants and flowers, legendary heroes, emblematic figures - he assembles them and transports them to another life in a dreamlike world: the world of childhood and innocence (excerpts from artgalerie13.com).
