Antique Japanese wooden writing box with decorative hardware (Meiji Era). This calligraphy box has sumptuous wood with characterful painted black hardware. The lid is hinged and has a carrying handle. The box also has three side drawers - one with escutcheon - the associated key is no longer available. The bottom displays Japanese characters and some naturally occurring holes in the wood. In excellent vintage condition commensurate with its age and usage.
