'The Lavender Field', oil on board (1982), by Wilhelm Goliasch (1922 - 1986). Lavender is in abundance throughout Provence in the South of France and people from around the world visit its famous fields. There is also a reference to the 'terre rouge' in the painting which refers to the patina of the rich red clays of Provence. That quintessential colour of the famous region is seen in the ochre hills and villages behind the lavender field in the artwork. Regarding the execution of the work, the painting knife strokes are visible in the artist's use of impasto and imbues the work with a textural quality amongst the beautiful colours. In original frame with linen slip and in very good vintage condition. Signed: 'Goliasch' in lower right hand corner. A short video clip of this work can be provided upon request.
