Ask a Question

'Study of a Nude Young Man', etching on fine paper, by an artist with initials KHK (1958). Artists always appreciate models with 'presence'. 'Presence' is that intangible quality which combines personality, poise and self-assurance. A nude model often maintains a repertoire of at least 10 to 15 interesting gesture poses for classes or individual artists. In this piece, the artist has captured the young model in a dynamic gesture pose which emphasises the positioning of his limbs and curvature of the back. It is ostensibly a simple line drawing, however, the proportions and symmetry achieved showcase the artist's skill and for which he/she chose to preserve as an etching. Etching as used by KHK in this case, is a technique to produce incised lines in a metal printing plate which then holds the ink and forms the image on the paper. The artist's initials and year of creation appear in the etching and an original signature in pencil is at the bottom along with other writing that is regrettably indecipherable. In very good vintage condition. Newly framed and glazed.
