Mid-century decorative ceramic pitcher / carafe by Bitossi in avocado green with orange accents (circa 1960s). A stout and sturdy design with loads of charm and character. A very attractive sheen has been applied to the variegated surface which displays lines of geometric shapes. Encircling the work are bands of brown and orange in the centre. With mid-century Italian origins, this piece begs to be displayed prominently for all to admire. In good vintage condition. Unsigned. Attributed without hesitation to Bitossi. Upon request a short video clip of the piece may be provided.

About the Artist: Bitossi's Aldo Londi was born in Montelupo, Italy in 1911 and started working for a ceramics manufacturer when he was 11 years old. After being taken prisoner in S. Africa during WWII, he returned to Italy and in 1946 was appointed artistic director at Bitossi. He held that position for over 50 years and created thousands of designs for vases, jugs, animals, candle stick holders and other objects. These are now widely collected and appear for bids at the major auction houses. Aldo Londi passed away in 2003.
