'Fishermen in the Old Port', mixed media on art paper (circa 1950s), by Pierre Ambrogiani. Traditional fishermen whose families go back generations can still be found here with their boats directly into the old port of Marseille. They set up their stalls on the quay and sell the catch of the day. The old port is an integral part of this, the second largest city in France. The U-shaped basin is filled with small pleasure boats, fishing vessels and large yachts. On the quayside, there are perhaps a dozen stalls or so. Each one displays his fish, mussels, wild oysters and octopus amongst others. The artist has wonderfully captured the animated scene along the pier. The beauty lies in the simplicity of the artist's lines. The artwork is in good vintage condition and has been newly framed under glass. It is signed in the lower right hand corner: 'Ambrogiani'. Please view the accompanying photos carefully to best view the condition and wonderful style of the work. Upon request a video will be provided.
