Poët-Laval decorative ceramic platter / vide-poche by Jacques Pouchain (c. 1950s). This rare platter surprises with an image of a fanciful bird in blue and white with a tail that mimics the motif on the lip of the plate. In the background is an egg yoke-yellow which livens the work. This piece is one of Pouchain's highly personal works created in Poët-Laval rather than in the town next door, Dieulefit, where his more commercial pieces were produced. The large maker's mark on the bottom reflects this differentiation. In very good vintage condition commensurate with age with some minor blemishing on the bottom of the platter. A rare collector's piece from the personal repertoire of the master ceramicist, Jacques Pouchain. A short video clip of this piece can be provided upon request.

About the Artist: Jacques Pouchain (1925-2005) left Paris and gave up his architectural training in the 1950s for the South of France to devote himself to art and his commercial pottery studio at Dieulefit. He produced highly personal work in Poët-Laval revealing a modern approach to pottery.
