'The Purple Trees of Madagascar', oil on board, by Paul Léon Bléger (circa 1930s-40s). Bléger superbly captures the detail of trees in his many paintings in Madagascar. His palms are also stunning. The treatment of light as it plays on the bark and foliage is mesmerising. Although Madagascar's most renowned tree is the Baobab, or upside down tree, the most colourfully stunning are the Jacarandas. Most of these grow around the lake of the capital city. They seem rather ordinary until their blooming season (September) when they become densely covered with luxurious purple flowers with a touch of blue. This joyful, stunning landscape transports its viewers to the blue skies, fresh air... and purple trees of Madagascar.

Commensurate with age, the artwork is in good vintage condition with very minor blemishing not affecting the overall impression of the image. You are invited to enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video of the artwork will be provided. The artwork has been newly framed with a linen slip.
