'Girl with Flowers', oil on board (circa 1930s), by Marguerite Barrière-Prévost (1887-1981). A young girl with a bouquet of spring flowers stands before a freshly painted powder-blue house on a warm southern day. She seems to have picked the flowers for the viewer. Overhead, cacti are in bloom with yellow flowers. An agave plant shoots towards the sun behind her. A beautiful young child, flowers, a sunny day with nature's vibrant colours all depicted in this lovely oil painting by an historic female artist. After having undergone a very recent restoration and cleaning, the artwork is in good overall condition, in a new frame with French-style linen slip. Signed in lower right hand, 'Barrière-Prévost'. A short video clip of this work may be provided upon request. Please note: the original name of this painting was 'La Petite Gitane' (The Little Gypsy Girl), which is no longer acceptable nomenclature for ethnic Roma people.

About the Artist: Barrière-Prévost exhibited regularly in Paris during the 1920s, both at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Société Coloniale des Artistes Français. She also exhibited with the Casbah group. Barrière-Prévost settled in Morocco, part of colonial France, painting mostly gouaches there which were exhibited at the Salon des Tuilleries in the pre-war period of the 1920s and 1930s. When at auction, the artist's works inspire spirited bidding which have resulted in several thousands of US Dollars. Collectors internationally continue to desire these pieces in recognition of the talent on display by a female artist who was a pioneer in her calling.
