'Farmers Working the Fields', oil on canvas, by Louis Toncini (1989). Working people of all sorts inspired this Provençal artist. In this case, Toncini celebrates the lives of the toiling farmers in their hillside fields which explode in summertime colour. The depiction of nature in all its beauty in this scene suggests too, that these working farmers are serenely interconnected with the trees on the hill, the crops sprouting from the earth and the blue of the sky. They are the salt of the earth, the best and the noblest of society who are kind, reliable and honest. The painting is in good vintage condition and has been newly framed. It is signed: 'Toncini. L'. Please view the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a short video may be provided.

About the Artist: Louis Toncini (1907-2002), born in Marseille, France, was one of a group of artists who founded the 'peintres prolétariens', or later, the painters of the people. He painted the world of workers and depicted such subjects as factories, warehouses, train stations and working ports, etc. After France's liberation from occupation during the war, his work took a more optimistic turn with vibrant paintings of still lifes, bouquets and country landscapes. Toncini's art appears in museums, galleries and private collections around the world and has been sold by the major international auction houses.
