Mid-century vase (c. 1960s) by Erik Pløen (1925 - 2004). Pløen's signature style is at work in this uniquely-shaped piece. Rustically coloured with a peacock feather pattern surround, the vase is cylindrical and elegantly short. The horizontal surface is a rainbow of subdued colour: magenta, gold, brown and yellow. Pløen's works are eminently collectible and make a wonderful addition to a home or office. Signed on the base: 'Pløen Norway'. In excellent condition.

About the Artist: Erik Pløen (1925 - 2004), notable Norwegian ceramicist set up his own pottery in 1946 in Hedmark. He devised a series of unique glazes that have become his trademark. All of the work in his atelier - throwing and sculpting the clay and the firing and glazing - he did himself. Much of Pløen's work was included in the Paris exhibition, 'Formes Scandinaves' in 1958. This important exposure led to further success and he won the Lunning Prize in 1961. In 1964 he was invited to exhibit at the Triennale di Milano. Pløen's success also led to an offer as a visiting professor in the USA at the renown, University of Chicago.
