Mid-century modern decorative dish by Jørgen Mogensen for Royal Copenhagen (Production Mark 21871), circa 1960s. Stunning dish with scarab motif and mottled brownish-green stoneware glaze. Weighty and tactile and a fine example of the mid-century modern movement. In very good vintage condition. Signed on base, 'JM' for Royal Copenhagen Denmark.

About the Designer: Jorgen Mogensen, Danish Potter (1927 -    ). Some consider Mogensen to be one of the 20th Century’s most important Danish potters and sculptors and his work perhaps, under-rated and undervalued. He used glazes to accentuate the textural quality of his pieces which are beautifully formed, weighty and sculptural. Mogensen trained at the Art Craftsman School in Copenhagen and then studied in Paris. He started his professional career as a potter's apprentice with Royal Copenhagen in 1949.
