Mid-century decorative dish (circa 1960s) by Jacques Pouchain - Atelier Dieulefit. This elegant bowl, elevated by a small circular base, was created in Pouchain's trademark tones of brown. The bowl's glazed face is decorated with one of Pouchain's favourite birds in simple Picasso-like lines reminiscent of primeval drawings. The glaze, shape and simple but elegant style of the outer surface is suggestive of Asian pottery or more specifically, Japonisme. In good vintage condition with some characterful markings commensurate with its age and use. Unsigned. Upon request a video of the piece will be provided.

About the Artist: Jacques Pouchain (1925 - 2005) left Paris and gave up his architectural training in the 1950s for the South of France to devote himself to art and his pottery studio at Dieulefit. He produced highly personal work and more commercial pieces as well both revealing a modern approach to pottery.
